There’s an old saying: if you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together.

At Carrot, we know that encouragement and support from your friends, family, coworkers, neighbors, and community goes a long way in motivating you to be healthier and more active. That’s why we are now making it easier for your friends and family to support and encourage you to meet your daily step goal every day!

When you add a friend, you’ll see each other’s daily step progress. Only the people you approve will be able to see how many steps you have taken today, and how your step goal is coming along. And you can go back and remove their access at any time if you want to.

Encourage your friends to hit 100% by the end of the day. Invite them to go for a little evening walk together if they’re nearly there and just need a few more steps to make it. Or engage in a little friendly competition to see who can meet their step goal first.

Ready to Step Together with your friends? Here’s how to do it:

  1. Make sure you’ve updated your Carrot app to the latest version.
  2. Go to the “Steps” tab of your Carrot App, and scroll all the way down to the bottom until you see the “Invite Friends” button.

  3. Enter in the bonus code for any friends who you’d like to share your step count and completion with. They can find their bonus code in the “Invite” tab of their Carrot app.
add a friend to leaderboard personal bonuscode
  4. Your friends will then need to accept your invitation in order to appear in your leaderboard. In order to do this, they need to go to their “Steps” tab in Carrot, and scroll down to the bottom until they see the leaderboard section. If they go in to the “pending” section, they will be able to see your name, and either accept your invitation by tapping the check mark or decline it by tapping the x.
  5. Once your friends have accepted your invitation they will show up in your leaderboard, and you will show up in theirs, just as soon as Carrot has registered your first steps of the day.

  6. Your friend list shows the top three step-goal completers for the day by default, but if you tap the green “View More” button, you will be able to view all your friends who have accepted your invitation and have registered steps for that day.

  7. You can change how your name appears in your friend’s leaderboard by going to the “account” tab in your Carrot app, going into your Profile, and adding a username in.
  8. You’re all set! Every day you’ll be able to view how your friends are doing, to cheer them on and encourage them to be the most active and healthy that they can be. Together we’re better!

Note: you can rescind your invitation at any time if you change your mind, either before or after it’s been accepted.

  1. If your friend hasn’t accepted your invitation yet, go into the “pending” section of your friend list, and tap on the x next to the name of the person you’d like to remove.
accept or refuse a step together invitation
  2. If your friend is already in your friend list, go into the “accepted” section of your friend list, and
    1. For Android users, tap on the 3 vertical dots in the top right corner of your screen, and select “remove friend”.

In both cases, you will not be able to view your friend’s step completion, and they will no longer be able to view yours, unless you invite them again and they accept your invitation again.

I don’t have too many friends on board the carrot app and the ones I have are not doing the challenges, challenging only with their spouses, or just personal goals. Is there a list of people with their codes that are in the same position as me that we could add them on as friends so that we could have some friends to pick from for these challenges? I love doing challenges but have no one to challenge.

I love the “add friends” feature so you can challenge and support your friends and give encouragement. I would love to have a “poke” button so if you see your friend nearing their goal but they haven’t quite gotten there yet and it’s late in the day, you could “poke” them to give them some extra encouragement to just get up and finish their steps to get their goal!

    Thanks for a great thing!

I have my daughter and husband using this carrot app now for a while and I’d like for us be able to challenge each other with this new update. How do we add each other to the leaderboard when we are already in the program? The invite looks like it is only for new friends. Please advise.

Hi Allyne, this is not just for new users, it’s for all users. Just scroll to the bottom of your Steps tab, and tap the “invite friends” button. (inviting friends to Step Together is different from inviting friends to try out Carrot). Then enter in the bonuscode for your daughter and husband. They will have to go into their Steps tab, and accept your invitation to Step Together. Then you will be able to see each other in your leaderboards.

I shared your program with a community health center in my city (Kitchener Ontario) and we have incorporated it as part of our Walking Group. I love the quiz’s on various health topics

Hi Heather, that’s awesome! You can add the members of your walking group to your leaderboard to check in on each other and keep encouraging each other throughout the day!

I hit my daily goal (16,400) every day for the last 5 wks except once (15,900). Carrot Rewards app did not record it properly from the Fitbit app. I didn’t receive my 450 pts for the most recent 14 day challenge but I got my daily pts (40). Can this be corrected?
